There are over 319 historic Confederate Camps, Posts & Garrison sites
located in Texas.

 

181 battles, skirmishes & engagements, military & Naval took place in Texas or the Texas coastline

 

The largest battle fought in Texas during the war was the Battle of Galveston fought on January 1, 1863, a Confederate victory.

 

The most lopsided victory of the war was the Battle of Sabine Pass fought on September 8, 1863.  Forty-Seven (47) Texas Confederate Irishmen under Lt. Richard W. "Dick" Dowling turned back an entire Yankee invasion fleet. The only medals for valor issued by the Confederate Government were issued to the defenders of Sabine Pass.

There were 12 major coastal forts on the Texas coast.

 

The 1860 census lists a population of 604,215.

 

Texas Governor Francis Richard Lubbock estimated that 90,000 Texans served the Confederate cause.

 

Texas soldiers served in every theater of the War Between the States.
