H.K. Edgerton Speaks to History Students
By Clint Parker

Tribune Newspapers

Asheville activist H.K. Edgerton spoke to high school students at Temple Baptist School in West Asheville on Wednesday, February 25.

H.K. Speaks to StudentsEdgerton, known by many people in the area as the man that carries the Confederate Flag, was invited to speak to Mr. Phil Buck's American History class.  The class recently finished studying the War between the States or as Edgerton refers to it as the "War of Northern Aggression."

In his latest act of patriotism for the "South," Edgerton plans to march from the Carson House in Marion, NC to Charleston, SC in his Confederate uniform and he will be carrying the "Christian Cross of St. Andrew" better known as the Confederate Battle Flag.

Edgerton says the march is in honor of the CSS Hunley, (first submarine to sink a ship), which was recently found and recovered along with its crew, who will be buried in April.  The march will also raise funds for the Southern Legal Resource Center.  He plans to begin his march on March 13.

Edgerton said the march should take about 30 days, a mere drop in the bucket to the more than 1,500 miles Edgerton walked last year from Asheville to Houston, Texas.

H.K. with the studentsTo get in shape for the march Edgerton has been walking all over the area.  Just the day before he spoke at the school, he walked to Black Mountain and on the day of the speech he walked from his home in Asheville to Temple Baptist School.

Edgerton mesmerized students for more than 40 minutes with his evangelistic presentation of his views on the War Between the States, his march to Texas, and social issues.

After his speech, Edgerton was swamped with students asking for his autograph. Some students waited as long as 30 minutes to speak to Edgerton and get his signature on a Bible or piece of paper.
