Lyons to Debate NAACP in Philly

Black Mountain, NC - SLRC Chief Trial Counsel, Kirk D. Lyons has been asked to debate Kevin Gray of the South Carolina NAACP on NPR's "Justice Talking" to betaped before a live audience on Monday, October 2, 2000 7:30-9:00 at historic Carpenter Hall in Philadelphia, PA. The topic of debate is:

THE CONFEDERATE FLAG: For some the Confederate flag represents centuries of slavery and bigotry; for others it's a patriotic tribute to the soldiers who died defending the South.  Does a state's endorsement of the Confederate flag fly in the face of an African-American's right to racial equality?  Join us as we explore the limits of symbolic speech and equal protection in this edition of Justice Talking.  Hosted by NPR's Margot Adler of New York.
