Comments on Terrorist
Activities
Black Mountain, NC
-
I write this note within hours of the attack on the World Trade Center
and
Pentagon. The staff and affiliates of the Southern Legal Resource Center
sends its prayers and condolences to all the families of the victims of
this
attack. We pray for the speedy recovery of the survivors. As judicial
activists we universally condemn the tragic loss of life caused by
fanatics
willing to wage war on innocent people to gain their ends. We support
the
closing of our borders as long overdue. Perhaps in the midst of tragedy
our
country can regain some of its lost sovereignty. The problem is with
foreign nationals who are terrorists, not the overwhelming number of law
abiding Americans. We pray that there will be a measured response to
this
outrage that will punish the guilty without taking away even more
essential
liberty from the American people. Erecting a police state around us will
not
insulate us from a foreign foe. I want to counsel our fellow Americans that it is not unpatriotic, in
this
new era we are entering, to be a Confederate. Confederate Southern
Americans want justice to be served the same as the rest of our fellow
citizens. We mourn the loss of innocent Americans, the same as the rest
of
our fellow citizens. I caution our fellow citizens not to lash out at
our
children wearing Confederate flags as “un-American.” I caution American
workers and employers to respect the rights of Confederate Southern
Americans in the workplace and not discriminate against them because of
false notions of patriotism. No one people have done more to build this
country or defend it than Southerners. And our fellow citizens need to
remember that now. In this new era of turmoil that began today I predict a very hard and
rocky
road for Confederate Southern Americans and Southern heritage in
general.
The mildest response we can hope for from the rest of the country is :
"your
struggle is unimportant now. The cause of your civil liberties needs to
take a back seat until the national emergency has passed." Those of us
unwilling to wait for our rights to be recognized by a benevolent
government
(after the crisis has passed) will be, I predict, the victims of varying
levels of persecution. Prepare for it and remember that we Confederate
Southern Americans are a Christian people and that our weapon against
tyranny is the justness of our cause and non-violence.
