Confederate Flag Case Set
for Trial
on
September 11, 2002
Black Mountain, NC - Timothy Castorina will finally get his
day in Court. US District Court Judge Joseph Hood set the Case for trial
on September 11, 2002 in Lexington, Kentucky. The trial date was set at
a pre-trial conference held yesterday before Judge Hood.
Castorina was suspended from Madison High School in
Richmond Kentucky 5 years ago for wearing a Hank William, Jr. concert
shirt bearing Confederate flags.
Castorina filed suit in Federal Court and the case
was dismissed in 1999. An appeal to the 6th Circuit put the case back on
the docket, followed by another Motion to Dismiss that was rejected.
It is expected that the case will take 3 days to
try. The case is being watched very closely by other Kentucky schools
who have also banned Confederate symbols.
