TO ALL WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME, GREETING.
KNOW YE
THAT H. K. EDGERTON is a true Son of the
South and a committed friend of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
THAT H. K. EDGERTON, at great personal risk
to himself, has been fearless in defending our flag throughout the
Southland in marches, speeches and solo vigils.
THAT H. K. EDGERTON has always conducted
himself as a gentleman in his dealings with our detractors; and
WHEREAS H. K. EDGERTON now plans to embark
on a cross country trip of some 1350 miles in which he will walk and
carry a Confederate flag; and
WHEREAS this trip will take him in or
through the SCV Divisions of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia,
Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas ; and
WHEREAS this trip is being made to raise
awareness in the public's mind of the vicious and escalating assault on
our Confederate heritage and to raise money for the SCV Heritage Defense
fund and the Southern Legal Resource Center; and
WHEREAS H. K. EDGERTON is being accompanied
by his brothers Terry Lee and Rashad Edgerton who will chronicle the
trip by video recording for posterity
THEREFORE, I, Robert H. Roper, III, South
Carolina Division Commander of the Sons of Confederate Veterans do
request that all members of the SCV support this most worthy endeavor,
and that all necessary aid, succor and assistance be given H. K., Terry
Lee and Rashad Edgerton on their March Through Dixie. I
further request that during the portion of the trip through South
Carolina, that South Carolina Compatriots provide food and shelter for
H.K. and his brothers, that Compatriots insure safe passage while in
South Carolina, that special meetings be held to honor them, allow them
to speak about their march, and raise funds for this endeavor. I
further request that every compatriot, Camp, and Brigade in the South
Carolina Division consider pledging as much as they can to assist in
raising funds for H.K. Edgerton's march for Heritage Defense. I
further request and encourage that all Army, Division, Brigade, and Camp
Commanders along the line of march consider issuing their own
proclamations consistent with mine.
Issued and signed this 16th day of October 2002
