Black Confederate Finishes
1,500-Mile Trek on Saturday

Austin, TX - Black Confederate activist and former branch NAACP President, H.K. Edgerton will finish his 1500+ mile March Across Dixie 11AM Saturday, January 25 at a brief ceremony in front of the Texas Supreme Court Building.

HK, who started the trek this past October to raise awareness of Confederate issues, will walk the last 5 miles Saturday morning carrying his Confederate flag and wearing a Confederate uniform.  The march on Saturday will commence at Highland Mall, proceed down Airport Blvd right on 51st Street to Red River, down Red River skirting the UT Campus turning right on MLK Blvd to Congress Ave and thence to North side of Capitol grounds in front of the Texas Supreme Court Building.

Edgerton has marched an average of 20 miles a day, 6 days a week to complete the march. The march was originally calculated to be only 1400 miles, a careful checking of the actual miles walked showed that that the planners had miscalculated.  Edgerton passed the 1400 mile mark on January 12 in Corsicana, Texas, beating the record of Union Veteran Sgt Gilbert Bates, who carried the Stars & Stripes on a 1,400-mile trek through the devastated South in 1868.

Although the march will end Saturday, Edgerton plans to march an additional 16 1/2 miles from the capitol to Buda, Texas in Hays County to show support for the Hays High School Rebels who lost their Confederate flag due to UIL fiat.

Edgerton is a member of the Board of Directors of the Southern Legal Resource Center, Inc, a non profit. civil rights, public law firm that specializes in Confederate Southern American issues.
