Black Confederate H.K. Edgerton
Marches to Raise Awareness for
Southern Heritage

Buda, TX - Leaving the capitol in Austin on Monday morning, H.K. Edgerton wrapped-up his "March Across Dixie" with a 16 mile encore march to Buda, Hays County, Texas, to show his support for the Hays High School Rebels who lost their right to display Confederate flags at school sporting events two years ago.

Welcoming him into Buda were Mayor John Trube, local citizens including descendants of the founders of the Antioch freedmen’s community, and members of the George Washington Littlefield Camp #59 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Upon his arrival, Mayor Trube proclaimed January 27th as "H.K. Edgerton Day" in Buda.

In sharing his story about the Southland and Confederate History and Heritage, Edgerton explained to News Channel 8 in Austin, "I’m here to expand the knowledge of folks who look like me and earned honor under the Christian Cross of St. Andrew… The best thing I’ve ever been called is a Southern man."

Since October, Edgerton has marched an average of 20 miles a day, 6 days a week to complete the march. The march was originally calculated to be only 1400 miles, but a careful checking of the actual miles walked showed that that the plans had been miscalculated.  In fact, Edgerton passed the 1400 mile mark on January 12 in Corsicana, Texas, beating the record of Union Veteran Sgt. Gilbert Bates, who carried the stars & stripes on a 1400 mile trek through the devastated South in 1868.

Edgerton is a member of the Board of Directors of the Southern Legal Resource Center, Inc., a non-profit, civil rights, public law firm that specializes in Confederate-Southern American issues.
