SLRC Weekly Update

Dear Compatriots:

Hello to everyone.  I hope everyone's week has gone well. We have been EXTREMELY busy this week at the SLRC.  Here is what has been going on:

Castorina

The court ordered negotiations are continuing.  An agreement has been reached on the terms of settlement, however, we are still negotiating about the legal fees.  The negotiations will continue over the weekend and with assistance of the court may result in settlement.  Take note: While we would like to go to trial, we are under a court order to participate in the negotiation settlement.  The language of the agreement is completely acceptable to us.  If Castorina settles, which will enshrine the 6th Circuit ruling as law, the Kentucky Division and the SLRC intend on going after three other schools using the Castorina settlement to make demands.

Hays County

A hearing was held Friday afternoon with Judge Sparks.  Opposing counsel tried to throw out our witness list but Judge Sparks sided with the SLRC.  Discovery and request for production has begun on Michael Hinojose and Carl Hall.  We will begin taking depositions in October.

Plaques

Depositions have been tentatively scheduled for late September.  We will be taking depositions from Tom Phillips, Jim Muse, Al Gonzalez, and Clay Johnson.

FAA Case

Two SCV members, James Parden and Robert Fanucci have been banned from displaying Confederate symbols at their workplace.  Both men are air traffic controllers in Jacksonville, FL.  A pretrial hearing has been scheduled for September 4 before an Administrative EEOC judge.  We have filed an extensive witness list on behalf of James Parden and Robert Fanucci.

Lawrence County

Service was sent out to the defendants this weekend with a copy of the lawsuit.

Dupont

We will be issuing the EEOC charges next week.  Stay tuned.

Confederate Autumn:  A March Through Dixie

H.K. Edgerton will carry a Confederate Flag from the Vance Monument in Asheville, NC to the Texas Supreme Court Building in Austin, TX....on foot.  He plans on leaving Monday, October 14, 2002 and will arrive on Robert E. Lee's birthday on January 19, 2003.  From there H.K. will march to the Hays High School Stadium in Buda, TX (an additional 30 miles.)  H.K.'s goal is to raise $2 million dollars in Heritage money for the SLRC and for the SCV Heritage Defense.  The SLRC will be accepting pledges in any amount for the trip.  Supporters may wish to pledge at least $1 per mile for a certain leg of the journey or hopefully the whole 1500 mile journey.  For further details visit the website at: www.southerncaucus.org/hkedgerton.htm

As school has started back we are being peppered with school cases again.  I receive many calls and emails everyday from parents and students.  Please support the SLRC so we do not have to turn so many people away.
