SLRC UPDATE:
7 March 2003
SLRC Weekly Update
Dear Heritage Supporters:
This has been quite a week for the Southern Legal
Resource Center. We have been busy juggling many cases this week. We
have news to report on the following:
Lawrence County
Defendant, Ricky Nichols, filed a motion to stay
based on the Soldiers and Sailors Act. Nichols has been called to active
duty in the National Guard. The court signed the order staying the case
without waiting for a response from us. This case was scheduled to go to
trial in June but is now delayed by Nichols being called up. We are
still preparing for trial and will be conducting preliminary discovery
very soon.
Dupont
The EEOC has officially denied that DuPont has
discriminated against any of its Confederate Southern American
employees. We now have 90 days to file a lawsuit on behalf of our
clients. Stay tuned for details.
FAA Case
We will be filing a lawsuit on behalf of two air
traffic controllers by March 17th. These two ATC’s are claiming
discrimination based on race, religion and national origin. Stay tuned.
MSNBC - Taylor County, FL
The Southern Legal Resource Center will be
attending the Taylor County school board meeting on March 18th , where
Confederate symbols have been banned. Kirk Lyons will briefly speak to
the school board. Afterwards local counsel, Patricia Brosnan, and Kirk
will be meeting with parents and students. Patricia will be on MSNBC
reports, tonight, with one of our clients, 13 year old Andrea Wright,
from Taylor County.
