SLRC Weekly Update
Dear Compatriots:
I hope that everyone had a wonderful St. Patrick's
Day and week. We at the Southern Legal Resource Center have been
putting your donations hard at work. A new incident has broken
wide open this week in Beaufort County, South Carolina. Also new
developments in our Taylor County case.
Beaufort County, SC
On Monday I began to receive calls from students
regarding a ban on Confederate symbols in Beaufort County schools.
The calls are still rolling in today. Seemingly out of no where
the principal at one of the high schools initiated a ban and the other
local high school has followed suit. As a result, over 50 students
were suspended on Wednesday for two days. We have contacted the
local Sons of Confederate Veterans camp and they are assisting us with
organizing the parents and students. Stay tuned for details.
Taylor County, FL
As many of you know, we are representing a number
of students in Taylor County over the banning of Confederate symbols at
school. On Tuesday Kirk and local counsel, Pat Brosnan attended
the Taylor County School Board meeting. Many students, parents and
concerned citizens attended the meeting. A parent, Duran Wright
spoke out against the ban. Also in attendance was one very angry
member of the local NAACP chapter. He issued a number of threats
to the school board and has since targeted a student's father (who
happens to be a member of the SCV in Perry, FL) by calling his employer
and demanding that he be fired. The NAACP is claiming that Duran
Wright (father mentioned above) is a racist. This is based solely
on the fact that he spoke out against the ban on Confederate symbols.
We are asking our supporters to call the Winn Dixie in Perry, FL and
politely ask to speak to the manager and tell him how much you support
Duran. Duran has been working for Winn Dixie for 25 years.
The NAACP is trying to do serious damage to this man. The number
is 850-584-5614.
Kirk and HK are traveling this weekend to attend
to the General Executive Council meeting in Elm Springs, TN. Last
weekend Kirk and his sons attended the SC Reunion and had a marvelous
time. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves on the Yorktown.
