SLRC UPDATE:
26 April 2003
SLRC Weekly Update
Dear Heritage Defenders:
This has been a great week for us! Much has
been happening here at the Southern Legal Resource Center. I have
taken many calls from parents and students this week regarding Southern
Heritage Violations at many schools. I also want to remind
everyone to visit our web site. Many changes have been made in the
last few months and we update it often. Here are other things that
we have accomplished this week.
Curtis Storey
The court dismissed this case this week without
even hearing any evidence. As reported last week, we filed a
Motion for Leave to Amend the Complaint and also attached 12 affidavits
including Commander in Chief Ron Wilson (testifying that he considers
himself to be a Confederate Southern American) Commander of South
Carolina Robert Roper (testifying to the same) Curtis Storey (same)
Chaplain in Chief John Weaver same and the fact that the Confederate
flag is a Christian symbol) Past Chaplain in Chief Alister Anderson
(testifying to Chaplain Weaver’s same testimony) Dr. Winston McCuen and
Clyde Wilson (testifying that a Confederate Southern American has all
the attributes of national origin status) HK Edgerton (testifying to
being a Confederate Southern American) Charles Yow (testifying on Native
American and Confederate Southern American national origin status) and
Roger McCredie (testifying on the persecution of Confederate Southern Americans and heritage violation.). We filed a notice of appeal to the 3rd Circuit on Thursday. Stay tuned for details.
Racist Food Case
Richard Smith was put on probation at Bechtel
Savannah River Site because of his display of Confederate symbols in the
workplace. Bechtel filed a reply to our Response to their Motion
to Dismiss. We will be filing a sur reply within the next week and
attaching 3 new affidavits in addition to the ones listed above. Stay
tuned for details.
Taylor County, Fl.
Taylor County School Board has banned Confederate
symbols in their schools and parents are working very closely with the
local SCV camp and us to overturn this ban. The local SCV camp has
prepared a packet with the FL Division’s help. On Tuesday the
local SCV camp made it’s first presentation to the Student Advisory
Committee at Taylor County Elementary. The camp will be making
presentations to each school. The local NAACP is going nuclear
over the situation but no one has wavered.
I would like to ask all the SCV camps that receive
this update to consider donating to the Southern Legal Resource Center.
We spend the majority of our time working on our cases and not
fund-raising. Please remember us.
Also the March Across Dixie tapes will be ready
very soon. If you pre-ordered your copy when the March was still
happening you should receive you copy soon! The tapes are still
available for ordering at $40 each. The March Across Dixie
commemorative flags are still available at $50 each. Order yours
today by calling 828-669-5189.
