SLRC Weekly Update

Greetings Compatriots:

Hello to everyone.  As everyone now knows, HK has finished his March to Charleston and took part in the Hunley funeral procession on Saturday.  It was quite an honor for HK to carry the battle flag during the procession.  HK wants to extend many special thanks to folks along the way.  On Saturday following the funeral Cmdr. Pee Wee and Lt. Cmdr. Mike Heath assisted HK and Terry Lee when the van broke down on them.  They paid for the parts and repaired the van right there.  HK and Terry Lee want to say THANKS!  Also thanks to Larry Salley and the League of the South members that took great care of HK along the way.  Thanks also to the SCV camps along the way that put HK up in hotel rooms; some camps put him up for three nights and he wants to say thank you very much!

The March to Charleston was quite an experience for HK and he has announced that he will be marching to Richmond, Virginia and the DuPont Plant very soon.  HK said that Richmond, VA is the modern day Alamo and we must stay the course.  He is planning on leaving in May. . A route is being established and I will be contacting SCV camps and League chapters along the way.  HK said he doesn’t want to beg along the way so reach into your pockets and donate now for this MOST IMPORTANT march.

Kirk also went to the Hunley funeral and bravely took his five children, Nathaniel, William, Stewart, Robert and Katherine. He also brought Neill’s oldest daughter, Beth and my daughter Madeline as well.  Kirk and all seven children really enjoyed attending this historical event and the children will indeed remember it for the rest of their lives!

School Cases

We are monitoring two school bans; one in Cherokee County NC and another in Dillon County SC.  In Cherokee NC a young man named Will Wright was forced to cover up his Confederate flag tuxedo jacket.  He wore this wonderful Confederate flag tuxedo and the principal asked him to hide his jacket.  His mother contacted us and we are currently helping her and her son in this situation.

In Dillon County an SCV member’s daughter was forced to remove a shirt depicting a Confederate flag.  The family has been working closely with heritage officers in South Carolina.  They family addressed the school board and the school board promised to have an answer in writing soon. We will keep you posted.

We do have a very important victory to announce in Buncombe County schools in North Carolina.  Dean Jenkins contacted the SLRC a few weeks ago and we were able to assist him in addressing the school board.  We are pleased to announce that Buncombe County schools have rescinded the ban on Confederate symbols.

DuPont

On Wednesday April 7th we filed a Notice of Appeal to the the Fourth Circuit United States Court of Appeals for the sanctions and attorneys fee ruling.  On April 21st we filed the required docketing statement with the court.

DuPont has already moved to collect against Kirk and more outrageously against the SLRC.  The SLRC was not even named in the Court's order as being required to pay sanctions - only Kirk.  Now DuPont filed a Notice of Foreign Judgment against Kirk AND the SLRC in a Buncombe County, North Carolina Court.

The SLRC has filed a Motion for Sanctions against DuPont's attorney for filing the Notice against the SLRC.  We will be seeking attorneys fees as punishment for all the time we were forced to spend defending this frivolous attempt to collect against the SLRC.

DuPont has not yet made a move to collect against our 7 DuPont clients, who at last count are still maintaining a weekly vigil in front of the DuPont plant.  At last Thursday's vigil, a member of DuPont security was reprimanded by DuPont for simply talking with the protesters.

Jimmy Jones, one of our DuPont clients has this to say: "Every Compatriot in the SCV has a duty station in front of DuPont, if you have not done your vigil tour - you are shirking.  Vigil is every Thursday afternoon right in front of DuPont on the Jefferson Davis Highway.  We need you there NOW!!!

Racist Food Case

Richard Smith’s deposition was taken on April 9th and he did a great job. More depositions will be following soon and we will keep you posted.

Lawrence County

We are currently working with our clients on nailing down a date for depositions.  Depositions will be taking place during the month of May more than likely.  As soon as a date is scheduled we will let you know.  Please send in your donations for this most important case.  If this case is won it could have the same impact on school officials as Castorina v. Madison County.  Pledge your support today.

For those who celebrate it on April 26th, the staff of the SLRC wish you all a Happy Confederate Memorial Day!
